Tip the Scale in Your Favor with Skeptics Part 2

Skeptics happyYou’ll find skeptics in all walks of life, though none so adamantly dismissive than when you tell them you are an energy work practitioner.  You’ll find skeptics in all walks of life, though none so adamantly dismissive than when you tell them you are an energy work practitioner.

Why is that?

Skeptics are doubters. They have to know it or experience it for themselves in order for it to be true. And since the human energy field is hard for skeptics to grasp, they dismiss it as non-factual.

Although it can be challenging when talking with a skeptic, there are things you can do to tip the scale in your favor. Here are three things you can do to help a skeptic become open to the possibility of working with you as an energy practitioner.

⦁ Hit skeptics with facts.

Facts are your most powerful weapon. Since a skeptic needs to feel very sure of the facts before taking any action, load them up with facts.

Skeptics like numbers, so tell them about what research has shown and report these findings in numbers or percentages. Also, drop big name researchers and surveys that have been done by mainstream medical groups.

As an example: According to a new survey released by Health Forum, a subsidiary of the American Hospital Association (AHA), “More than 42% of responding hospitals indicated that they offer one or more complimentary and alternative medicines (CAM) therapies, up from 37% in 2007.”

⦁ Share third-party stories.

If facts are your most powerful weapon then telling third-party stories are your most powerful ally.

Practitioners of energy healing claim there is a subtle human energy field, which they can detect with their hands. The only problem with this is that no one has ever actually demonstrated the existence of a human energy field.

This is why skeptics dismiss energy healing as fakery. However, when someone has an experience that feels very real to them, skeptics will listen. That’s because the personal experience of someone practicing or receiving energy healing is very real to them.

Telling about a person’s experience with energy healing, whether it be about how relaxing it was to how profoundly moving is was, is powerful. Therefore, have at your ready specific examples of how your healing modality has helped others dealing with Cancer, Diabetes, Depression, Strokes, Traumatic Stress relief, and even Hospice.

Third-party stories invite the skeptic to experience energy healing from another’s perspective.

⦁ Earn their respect.

Skeptics become skeptical if everything you tell them is glowingly positive. When everything is all ‘sunshine and unicorns’ a skeptic sees this as a sales job and that just confirms what they’re already suspicious about energy healing.

There are plenty of things, small and large, that energy healing won’t do. Tell the skeptic about these things!

For example, Reiki and Therapeutic Touch will aid the body in releasing stress and tension by creating deep relaxation. However, they don’t purport to cure anything.

So be upfront about how energy healing aids in achieving health and wellness. And be clear with skeptics that it doesn’t cure Cancer or Diabetes.

Being open with them and providing a balanced perspective earns you respect.

After reading this blog post and the previous one, Tips to Convince Skeptics to Believe in Your Product you might decide to throw in the towel and eschew skeptics completely. After all, there are plenty of other people more open to energy healing.

Why bother with skeptics? Here’s why: They. Need. You! Although they may not know they need Reiki, Therapeutic Touch, Chakra Balancing, Polarity Therapy, or EFT . . . they do.

Hitting them with the facts, sharing third-party stories, and being open about what your healing modality doesn’t do will help a skeptic become open to the possibility of working with you as an energy practitioner.

Yes You Can! empowers energy healers to put themselves forward in their communities by starting up healing practices. For in doing so, not only will more people find the healing they need, our communities and our relationship with the natural world will also be healed.
